Hugo Read is a wine writer and educator. He’s also the owner of the Italian wine specialist supplier, Viavino. He grew up in a wine family and his whole life has been steeped in wine. In 2003 he spend six months touring Italy in his Fiat Punto (without air-con), visiting over 100 producers as well as learning the language. Subsequently he has taken the WSET diploma, graduating with merit and being shortlisted for a scholarship. In a previous life he used to write a wine column for a civil service publication.
He is now a judge at the IWSC (International Wines and Spirits Competition) and a member of the AWE (Association of Wine Educators).
He is a regular visitor and private buyer in France and Italy. His main specialities are Burgundy, Alsace, Germany and Italy.
